Unit 1 - Reconstruction in America (1865 - 1877)

Reconstruction (1865–1877)
After the Civil War, the U.S. tried to rebuild and give freedom to formerly enslaved people. New laws ended slavery, made African Americans citizens, and gave Black men the right to vote. Many made progress in schools and politics, but resistance and violence in the South led to the rise of Jim Crow laws after Reconstruction ended.
